From Yvonne S., Victoria BC.
From a young age and throughout my life, the working mechanisms of the human body fascinated me. A huge family medical book caught my attention because within its pages were illustrated illnesses such as tuberculosis, scarlet fever, food poisoning, etc., as well as the importance of a healthy, balanced diet, fresh air, exercise, a loving home, cleanliness and emotional stability. This literature had a lasting impression upon me.
Losing my mother to cancer when she was 57 years of age, my husband 16 years later, when he was 47 years of age and being the main caregiver for both of them, I looked for answers to the age old question we as humans ask when death comes calling at the door......why?
What's the cause? What are the connections? I wasn't getting answers from mainstream allopathic medicine, in fact, they left me disillusioned. This fostered my burning desire to seek out and look for answers with steadfast determination.
Working at a funeral home for over a decade, seeing autopsy cases in the morgue with the majority of death certificates indicating the primary cause of death (in most cases) as ischemic heart disease, CVA (cerebrovascular accident), stroke, many and varied cancers too many to list......this too, left me wondering, why?
My career path shifted to a 12 year stint working in dental offices adding another dimension to understanding the workings of the human body starting with the oral cavity. I was fascinated discovering how pathogenic bacterial strains in the mouth created weaknesses and degenerative disturbances in other parts of the body, eg., the heart.
Current mainstream dental procedures used to save a tooth, namely "root canals," create a toxic burden overload. Current mainstream dental extractions done without cleaning out the periodontal ligament surrounding the tooth after removal create the perfect breeding ground for virulent pathogens that silently destroy (literally eating) bone tissue in and around the jaw negatively impacting otherwise healthy immune systems. Why? There must be (and is) a better way.
From a personal standpoint one incident involving homeopathies occurred in 2006. My husband was having radiation treatments at Tom Baker Cancer Centre targeting stomach/ esophageal cancer that was finally detected at Stage IV and he was given 6 months to live (he lived for 5 months following that diagnosis). Feeling completely helpless and internalizing my emotions so as to "be strong" I visited Wild Rose Holistic Clinic for help coping with this major life event. A pleasant naturopath listened to me painfully explain my husband's battle with cancer, letting me sob uncontrollably at times trying to come to terms with the fact that my husband was dying. After muscle testing various remedies to find a specific formula I was given Ignatia (St. Ignatius Bean , I believe it was 200c), and put IS,20 drops in water and drank as needed 3,4 times a day.
My family and friends continually commented on how strong and composed I was throughout the months to follow. This simple homeopathic item provided me with coping mechanisms allowing me to endure this most difficult situation.
In the Materia Medica, Ignatia's descriptive remarks state: after shocks, grief, disappointment - effects of grief and worry, melancholic, sad, tearful. It is one of the chief remedies for hysteria. I remained calm and composed and able to handle things as they came.
For the past 7 years I have had the privilege of studying, working and training with a mentor in a new career path using biofeedback in combination with homeopathy.
Witnessing the tremendous healing powers of simple remedies further confirms my strong desire to further my education in the field of homeopathic medicine. The principles are basic, simple and get lasting results, with the goal in mind always to improve and strengthen the human body and achieve homeostasis. There are no words to explain the satisfaction that comes from making improvements and positive changes in peoples' lives day after day. Paying it forward, _shall we say? After all of the "why's," my search for answers has ended. I know why. All of these life factors brought me to a very special time and place in my life. This will benefit me greatly as a homeopath.
