Over the last 15 years I have worked as an EMT, wilderness EMT, outdoor trip educator and middle school life skills/health teacher and a trip coordinator for The Santa Barbara Middle School. I was an apprentice to a naturopathic doctor for a year and a half in Vermont. I became a certified Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDNP). In the last two years I have taken phlebotomy, a yearlong clinical herbalism “Roots” class and an LNA program. I have built an herbalism room at our house where we have a drying rack, a table for making tinctures, cutting herbs, processing our harvest. I love making remedies and fire siders for the immune system and have been studying natural medicine as much as I can. Recently I started seeing Dr. Shahram for homeopathy treatment to get to the base cause of all my health struggles, especially to treat and heal fully from stage four lung cancer diagnosis I got a year and half ago. I have been blown away by the changes I have experienced while doing this treatment with him and I am extremely interested in learning and becoming a homeopath. This is what brought me to this program and why I am applying.
Over the last 12 years I’ve gone through a lot of different health challenges and chronic illness issues. I had to learn to reach out to alternative medicine practitioners to find treatments that help me heal and put myself into a healing vibration/healing state. I found that a lot of the time western med focused on treating symptoms but not the cause. Naturopathic doctors, herbalist, eastern doctors, homeopathic and other alternative practitioners tended to find ways to help me identify what could be at the cause of a lot of symptoms and illnesses I had. I have overcome Lyme disease and I now with lung cancer I have been taking some western medications, supplements, tinctures, and Teas.
At first I didn’t really care what was inside the remedies, I just took them. Then I started realizing and sensing how the energy of the remedy that I put in my body would shift my vibrational frequency into a healing state or out of one depending on if it was the right match or not. This is what caught my attention and made me interested in learning more about the herbs that were actually in the remedies. I also realized how much of healing was energy based and frequency based. The subtle changes in my frequency could heal me or put me out of a state of healing. Homeopathy really is about this concept and I did not know about it until this summer in June when I met Dr. Shahram in Canada. I was so excited to know there was a whole field of medicine focused on this concept and aware of it in a structured way that could be taught and applied to patients. I want to learn it so I can help others!
My philosophy on wellness and healing really stems around the idea that we are all energy and so are medications. The main goal is to find what combination of remedies and supportive lifestyle changes can help switch a person from a disease/non-healing state into a healing state. Now I can see that its even better if you can find a simple tincture- one or two instead of needing so many things to shift the person into a healing state. Homeopathy simplifies this! You can unlock so many doors for someone with chronic illness to go from feeling exhausted to feeling great. This concept is what motivates me and brings out the passion in me for being in the healing arts and homeopathy seems like a perfect place to do this since it goes back to the roots and the base of most medication’s and remedies.
I want to take this program on Homeopathic medicine because:
--we are all energy and every illness is when a frequency in our body is no longer resonating at a healing state. I want to learn how to identify what is off and what can match it to treat it and homeopathy does this.
--I am fascinated with healing and honestly after being on so many meds and supplements I would like to learn how to treat more with a lot less! I love how small the doses can be and have such big impacts on healing. From my own experience using the remedies now I can’t wait to see more of what can happen for different conditions and challenges.
--I love to learn and I want to continue to write books about healing for people with chronic illnesses and so learning as much as a I can about homeopathy will allow me to wrotew about it much more efficiently and accurately and explain things more simply so others can understand the power of it and how to use it.
In regard to my preparedness for this program personally and academically demanding course of study I have pursued and obtained 2 masters degrees, while teaching full-time as a middle school teacher. The first is in education and the second is in clinical psychology. I feel like both of these are very supportive in terms of my work with clients in the future as an herbalist.
I also have been accepted to a LPN program through Vermont Tech, one of the VT State Colleges, starting this fall. I will be doing this towards getting a Nurse Practitioner degree eventually and would prefer to work as a homeopath or add it to my practice. So these together are going to be fantastic and I am so motivated to learn it all at once!
