It’s 3:00 am. I am in deep sleep, dreaming of playing hide and seek with my 1-year-old son. Suddenly the loud and uncharacteristic wails of my usually happy child woke me up. Racing into his room, I place the palm of my hand on his forehead just to feel his radiating heat burn through me. His eyes are still shut but his loud cry has now turned into painful moans and whimpers. Reaching for the thermometer, my hands trembling, I try to gently take his temperature. It tells me what I already suspect, a reading of 104.7F.
Helplessly I reach for the bottle of Tylenol. Aren’t fevers beneficial? Should I allow this fever to take its course? But how high is too high? Do I need to take a trip to the emergency room? Why did this have to happen in the middle of the night? In the heat of panic and desperation, unable to settle my qualms, I
silently vow to dedicate my life in taking charge of my son’s health.
My husband and his family have been using homeopathy for decades, but my exposure and understanding of it had been limited. We had our family homeopath, but motherhood soon taught me that at 3:00 am I have only myself to count on. And so marked the beginning of my journey. I spent the next few years diligently studying homeopathy on my own, ordering books online, and reading about constitutions and dilutions. Thankfully my son’s pediatrician
encouraged me to treat on my own. I visited him for a diagnosis, hit the books and found the medicines, and again returned for a follow-up visit to make sure the infection had gone.
Each and every time I evaded a course of antibiotics felt like a battle I had won. Witnessing the day-to-day miracles in my son’s health when I dosed him with the tiny white pellets made me truly believe whole-heartedly in the science. Homeopathic medicines soon became a central part of my life, and it was our household’s first-aid kit.
Two years ago I received a call from my father-in-law pleading with me to treat his idiopathic nephritis. After 3 years of hopping from doctor to doctor without improvement, he was left with facing steroid treatment as his only option. Feeling incapable of treating something so complex, I flatly refused. But after hearing the sincerity and plea in his voice, I reluctantly agreed to give it a try. Upon the first dose of Plumbum Met 30, he aggravated. He was urinating
excessively and had a bad case of diarrhea.
Furious at myself for taking this on, I urged him to antidote immediately. But he quickly refuted, “I am getting better, I know it”. Slowly and steadily I observed his life transform. Re-dosing only at the moment when he needed it, seeing the reduction of aggravations, and being privy to the magic his body performed changed my entire outlook. A man, who used to be on a strict low sodium diet, is now free to eat whatever he likes without the fear of water retention or protein loss. It was then that I understood that life’s greatest gratification is to partake in someone else’s healing.
Receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Developmental Psychology gave me insight into the human mind and emotions that govern us through various stages of life. With this understanding, I entered the realm of education and gained first-hand experience teaching children in grades 5 through 11. Teaching helped me realize my ability to not only impart knowledge, but to understand and empathize with children and adolescents. This awareness is essential in
homeopathy. It will encourage me to treat as a whole, connecting the physical with the mental and emotional, always keeping in mind that each individual is unique.
I have a lot to be grateful for and the only way I can truly show my appreciation and utter thanksto the past and present homeopaths is to become one myself. Sharing knowledge is my third passion, but homeopathy has become a necessity in my life. With the skills and expertise I will attain from the Canadian College of Homeopathic Medicine’s finest faculty members, I will realize my full potential and dedicate my life to heal and show others how capable our bodies
can be when given the right catalyst. My ultimate goal is to see homeopathy work alongside with mainstream medicine, its efficacy and safety being advocated by doctors and professors around the globe.
