My journey began early in 2000 when my health began to deteriorate rapidly. My daughter was 5 months old at the time and I began to lose weight rapidly, along with this rapid weight loss I suffered severe and debilitating fatigue, severe joint and muscle pain, muscle weakness, difficulty concentrating and at times I even had slurred speech. I struggled to even perform daily tasks and over the coming months new symptoms continued to surface including severe digestive upset that left me unable to leave my house most days.
I sought medical help, my primary care physician was unable to figure out what was going on with me and so she referred me to a gastroenterologist. As I waited 2 months for my appointment my weight reached an all time low in my adult life of, 89 pounds! When I finally arrived in the G.I. docs office I thought I would be met with concern and a course of action. Much to my shock and dismay I was accused of anorexia and he actually had the nerve to say that my symptoms were mild and of no consequence. He reluctantly ordered an upper GI endoscopy at the urging of my primary care physician due to the fact that I had positive antibodies indicating possible celiac disease.
The biopsy came back normal and I was dropped as a GI patient after that. I was then referred to an internal medicine doctor who looked into a possible auto-immune disease. The only indicator found after a wide array of blood tests was a positive anti-nuclear antibody test indicating that my body was indeed attacking itself but they had no name or diagnosis. I was quite disappointed when I came to the conclusion, doctors didn't know as much as I thought.
It was at this moment that I realized that I needed to take my health into my own hands. I started researching and studying all that I could find. I looked into alternative healing modalities and as I started to improve my diet and use various alternative therapies my health began to improve. I was so amazed that such debilitating symptoms could be relieved by such simple means. I enrolled in every alternative medicine course I could find searching for knowledge and it wasn't until I began my bachelors degree in natural health science that I became aware of homeopathy.
As I began my course in the fundamentals of homeopathy I was intrigued. At this point in my studies I had a thirst for knowledge and my mind had been opened to a whole new reality of health and healing. My homeopathy classes became a favorite of mine, I started purchasing homeopathic remedies in various potencies to have on hand at home. Understanding that it was necessary to have a very specific remedy I started my own little pharmacy at home. As I began using homeopathic remedies I saw just a glimpse of this powerful healing method.
My son began to experience severe back pain, it was so severe that it would bring him to tears. I tried a variety of natural healing methods but nothing provided much relief for him. We found a homeopathic remedy for him in the remedies I had been collecting over the years and he took it. I was astonished that his pain dissipated and not only did it provide relief that day, he has never had pain that severe in the years since.
I began looking into becoming a homeopath in 2007 as I was finishing my bachelors degree but at the time my children were still young and I didn't want to have to leave them for a week to attend clinicals. I knew that when the time was right in my life that I would become a homeopath. I have continued studying on my own and I have a huge library of books on homeopathy including the organon, materia medicas and shelves of books on the science of homeopathy. As difficult as my health journey has been I can honestly say I am grateful for the experience because it is what brought me to a place where I was open enough to discover a whole new world of health care. The decision to study homeopathy has been years in the making and I am thrilled that the time has come that I can pursue my dream of becoming a homeopath.
