From Vruta P., MD, Edmonton
Why have I decided to become a Homeopathic Doctor? Well the answer is simple: it’s in my blood. I was born with a really bad cold and my uncle, who at that time was a student in India learning Homeopathic Medicine in the 80s, treated me with homeopathic medicine. From fever to migraines I have only been treated with natural medicine. I didn’t know much about Homeopathy until about 3 years ago. I visited the same uncle, who was a student when I was a baby; but now he had his own teaching hospital in a small rural part of India. He dedicates his time to his students and helping the poor who can’t afford medicine let alone hospital visits. I saw his passion to help and how much of a difference he is making in their lives. My uncle has been awarded with recognition from the Prime Minister of India on multiple occasions and in the city of Mumbai he is so well known and respected he seems like a celebrity. Dr. Manoj Patel is my reason and inspiration. I had the opportunity to sit in a few of his case study classes at the hospital and had a chance to shadow him as he took cases in his clinic. I really appreciated how much time he takes with his patients. I have immense respect for him and hope I become half the doctor that he is.
I know I already have medical school completed but honestly, my heart is to practice medicine in a more natural manner. In the time I have spent with MD’s, I realize they lack the passion and compassion that I saw in my uncle. Patients aren’t given the time and attention that they deserve and especially in Canada, the more patients you see the more money the MDs look at pocketing. I don’t care to get rich and make millions. I really want tolearn to spend time getting to the root of a disease rather than self medicating the patient for the rest of his/her life. Homeopathy takes time because it really focuses on the root of the problem/disease in order to find the exact cure. I really want to learn the ins and outs so I can have a better understanding on how I can help a patient and have a successful practice of my own. The vision I have is to collaborate both my medical background with the homeopathic medicine in order to give a patient their choices on what type of treatment plan they would benefit from. It’s evident that times have changed, so I feel like more people would have an open mind about holistic medicine as an approach to a medical treatment. There is a lot of potential for homeopathy medicine to flourish in Canada and I know that I have a bright future in the field.
