The first time I realized I wanted to pursue something new was almost a year ago, after I had my daughter. When she was born she had A.B.O incompatibility and needed photo-light therapy. My heart sank that day as all I could think was, “what did I do wrong?" As a nurse I knew I hadn’t done anything wrong, but as a mother we always place the blame upon ourselves. Watching my daughter lying in the incubator with what I call a batman mask to protect her eyes I thought to myself, “I need to do more. I need to be more.” I love being a nurse, I enjoy caring for each of my stroke patients but I always leave with the feeling, “what else can I do for them?” This was the same feeling I had for my daughter as I watched over her.
Once we were home, life had taken over and my feeling to be / do more with my life was pushed to the back of my mind. Then, 9 months later I found myself in search of a new calling, this time it was because my 5 year old son had come down with a respiratory illness. I brought him to the doctor and was told “it’s a virus, give him acetaminophen and ibuprofen to break his fever.” I already knew that the combination of the two drugs broke fevers, I used it all the time when someone had a high fever. I wanted to know what else could I do? Finally after performing a Google search on natural remedies to assist with colds and fevers, I saw the light...Homeopathic remedies!!! My Oprah AH HA! moment had arrived. I want to become a homeopathic practitioner! The ability to assist people using alternative medicine, medicines that assist the body to heal itself.
After my many years in the health care field I have administered so many drugs to my patients, that I have seen the good, the bad and the ugly side effects that western medicine has. Don’t get me wrong, western medicine does have its good qualities but I feel many people are given way too many medications. There are numerous alternative possibilities to assist in healing. In my honest opinion, I would much rather give someone a natural remedy, something plant-based or mineral -based; rather than a lab- created chemical drug. These lab-made drugs can cause so many unwanted side effects, in an attempt to alleviate the one main problem someone is having. The body is a magnificent working machine, it has the ability to self heal when injured or ill. When we pump the body full of chemicals we can break down its natural defense system, so my goal is to learn how to assist the body in healing itself. I want to help people relieve their conditions both mental and physical, and allow them to maintain good health and vitality.
As a mother, I know that children get sick often, get bumps, bruises and scrapes all too easily. I have used different homeopathic remedies to alleviate injuries and treat acute symptoms of teething, sinus pain and stomach aches. I have learned that once school starts my healthy “bug free” child, will soon come home not feeling well. I hope that in the future I could help children by providing preventative homeopathic medicines and decreasing the number of sick days.
In closing I have chosen homeopathy to assist people in healing their bodies from within. I would like to decrease their dependence on western medications if not necessary, and increase their natural well-being. As a society we put a lot of stress on our minds and bodies; many people become run down and ill; I want to educate people on the importance of caring for their mind, body and spirit, and provide them with preventative care measures. I hope that in the future more people will turn to homeopathic treatment and begin to learn about self healing.
