I believe that my decision to become a homeopath was made very long ago as I have had an interest in Homeopathy since I discovered the different healing arts in my youth. Homeopathy was not, at that time, very well regarded in North America. Interestingly, both my parents were born in Europe and had a much more favourable view of homeopathy than the parents of my friends who were born in Canada.
Eventually I became a social worker and spent a great deal of my working life in general hospital psychiatry, primarily out-patient. Sadly, I saw what poly-psychopharmacolgy could do and became very interested in more natural approaches.
In my thirties, I had the opportunity to live and work in India and saw how well homeopathy was regarded and how it was part of mainstream medicine. When I returned to Canada I attempted, several times, to study homeopathy through different correspondence courses.
I discovered that correspondence courses were not for me. I found self-study to be too isolating and without a schedule of what needed to be done by when, I would leave my studies to do whatever the practical need of the hour was. I truly missed having teachers and classmates that I could interact with and learn with.
I have a robust psychotherapy counselling practice and have patients that are on a variety of prescribed medications. Some have given up on these meds which have not really solved their depression, insomnia, anxiety etc. I have often thought how wonderful it would be if I could offer them homeopathy along with counselling, EMDR, IFS, Brainspotting and meditation!
When I discovered that the regular class was going to be offered online through CCHM, with dates, teachers and fellow students, I told a close friend who has now also joined the program. We are both very exited about the course and call it Covid’s silver lining!
I do think that people in general, and especially North America are much more open to the idea of homeopathy and also to the understanding of energy psychology, energy medicine and the concept of the vital force responsible for health. I am very much looking forward to this journey.
