From Karen M., RN, Diamond Bar, CA.
I have devoted my adult life to healthcare, as a Registered Nurse, a college level nursing instructor and exam writer, and, more recently, as a homeopathic consultant. I am applying to the Canadian College of Homeopathic medicine because I would like to qualify for the CCH certification. I chose the Canadian College because of your reputation for excellence in homeopathic education and the stability of your college.
I became interested in homeopathy because of a health issue that my partner had, almost thirty years ago. He had symptoms indicating that he might have an upper respiratory infection. I convinced him to go to an M.D., and he received antibiotics. He became quite sick from them. My partner was from Mexico. He had never taken antibiotics or any prescription medicine. His mother was a curandera, with a vast knowledge of herbal medicine. She had used herbal medicine to care for her children when they were ill. We made a trip to Rosarito, BCN, where his mother lived. She gave him herbs to take and he rapidly recovered. That was a wakeup call for me about the limitations of Western medicine.
Based on that experience, I began to explore alternative therapies, I had practiced as a Nirmal Kriya Yoga instructor for several years, recognizing the positive effects of this evidence-based practice in relieving depression and anxiety. So, I knew there was something more than Western medicine to help people to get well. I discovered homeopathy and began to read books to try to learn as much as I could about this alternative form of healing. My interest grew until I sought out the opportunity to apprentice with a working homeopath, Willow Buckley. I apprenticed with Willow for four years.
In 2012, I opened my private practice of Complementary Healthcare. In my practice, I bring together homeopathic medicine, Bach Flower remedies, HeartMath Biofeedback, and Kriya Yoga to provide integral complementary healthcare to my patients. I love how homeopathy help my patients to gently heal and achieve balance and wellness.
I look forward to studying for the Diploma in Homeopathy, (the Online option) and to learning more about this fascinating science.
