As I stayed at home doing work on a Saturday afternoon while my kids were out with my husband enjoying the weekend, I had the television on in the background and I heard the woman on the TV say ‘I asked myself if I had three months to live would I be doing what I am doing now’ (or something along those lines). I asked myself the same question, it didn’t take long to come up with an overwhelming unequivocal ‘NO’. I am at a point in my life where I am looking for a career that I am passionate about, one where I can be proud of helping people feel better.
My Interest in pursuing a career in helping others starts with my own health journey as well as a keen interest in healthy living. I began my personal health odyssey as a way to ease stomach issues that began just after I graduated from University. For many years I sought the natural route looking for an alternative health practitioner who was in line with my thinking. It was not easy to find someone who could help me, as so many were suggesting remedies that made my symptoms worse. My first cleansing diet began in 1996, for 4 months I ate vegetables, fresh fish, chicken, rice pasta, eggs, water supplements, juicing and green drinks and I felt great.
After a few years of working in sales and marketing the stress of the corporate world brought back the stomach issues and I finally turned to the western medical route for relief as I was in daily pain. Soon after I was ready to start a family but didn’t feel well enough to actually go down that path just yet. After countless tests I found myself seeing a natural doctor where I was diagnosed as having extremely high heavy metals in my system. I worked with my naturopath to cleanse with homeopathic remedies and she approved another supplement I had discovered with much research on my own. Both approaches worked effectively after 18 months of cleansing and today I have two healthy children. I continue to rely on homeopathic and natural remedies for me and my family.
My work life keeps me so busy that I am often working very late nights and weekends to meet deadlines, all for someone else in a toxic political environment. I am looking for balance in my life and I have the initiative and drive to be successful in starting my own business. I would like to put my marketing experience to use in a field that is more conducive to my passion, so that I can also help keep my family healthy as well follow a career that helps others and that has meaning. Having worked in the corporate world, in retail, (health food and apparel) and the restaurant industry (waitress), I believe I will be able to relate to people from many backgrounds and life stages.
I look forward to making time and actually being around for the big and small events that happen in my family’s lives. This move marks an overall shift in our family lifestyle as we plan to move to a smaller community outside of the GTA where we can slow down the pace of our schedules and enjoy time together; similar to my experience growing up is a community in Nova Scotia.
